Amman Arab University (AAU) Architecture Students Conduct Field Visit to Salt City to Enhance Practical and Cognitive Skills
As part of Amman Arab University’s commitment to strengthening the practical and cognitive skills of its students—and in line with the vision of Prof. Mohammad Al-Widyan, President of the University, and with the support of Dr. Anwar Al-Assaf, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering—the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering conducted a field visit to the city of Salt. The visit was carried out in cooperation with the Jordan Engineers Association – Balqa Branch and coordinated with the association’s Social Committee.
The student delegation was welcomed at the association’s headquarters by Eng. Abdul Mohsen Al-Kharabsheh, Head of the Branch Council, Mr. Majed Al-Awamleh, Branch Director, and Eng. Muthana Arabiat, Head of the Social Committee. They warmly received the students and emphasized the importance of such visits in strengthening the connection between students and the professional sector, introducing them to the role and services of the association, and highlighting the cultural, historical, and architectural value of the city of Salt.
The visit included a guided field tour led by Eng. Muthana Arabiat, who provided a detailed explanation of the city’s key landmarks and its architectural and heritage significance. The tour covered various sites including Al-Ain Plaza, the historic Hamam Street, Abu Jaber Museum, and the Al-Daoud House, which serves as a successful example of restoration and adaptive reuse.
On this occasion, Dr. Al-Assaf stated that the visit reflects the Faculty of Engineering’s dedication to enriching students’ field experience and linking theoretical knowledge with practical application, which contributes to skill development and job market readiness. He emphasized the faculty’s strong focus on building strategic partnerships with community institutions due to their vital role in advancing the educational process, broadening students’ perspectives, and keeping pace with the rapid changes and demands of the labor market.
This visit is part of a series of extracurricular activities organized by the Faculty of Engineering to connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications and to enhance students’ analytical and evaluative skills within authentic urban environments. It also aims to raise the competency of architecture graduates and expand their architectural and cultural horizons through active engagement in field and community-based activities relevant to their discipline.
